Light & Bright Skin Resurfacing Treatment
Using a combination of laser technologies to treat the dermis, or middle layer of skin, the Light & Bright treatment combines a non-ablative laser to improve skin’s texture and stimulate collagen in the deeper layers of the skin with IPL energy to break up dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and redness, revealing fresher, more youthful looking skin.
The Light & Bright skin resurfacing treatment helps turn back the clock by:
- Lightening the appearance of dark spots, freckles, and age spots
- Improving skin’s texture
- Reducing the appearance of veins and redness
- Reducing the appearance of sun damage
- Improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
The Light & Bright system uses Frax 1550 technology to deliver small, controlled bursts of energy to the middle layers of the skin, causing it to heat up and stimulate the body’s natural healing process to improve skin’s texture. By heating the lower layers of the skin, the dermis, the skin heals itself, generating new collagen, which results in smoother, more youthful looking skin.
The Ellipse IPL™ is then used to target blood vessels and pigmentation in your skin using short bursts of light energy. This laser is designed to specially target blood vessels and melanin in the skin to reduce the appearance of redness and age spots.
This combination of laser treatments has proven effective in clinical studies at improving skin’s texture and appearance.
- 100% of patients saw a lightening of pigmentation.
- 82% of patients felt their wrinkles appeared softened.
- 100% of patients saw a reduction in vascular appearance.
What To Expect From a Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment
During your consultation, you will meet with a member of our aesthetic team who will discuss you skin concerns and perform a full assessment of your skin to determine the best treatment for you. Typically, the Light & Bright laser resurfacing treatment consists of 3 treatment sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart, but your provider will recommend a customized treatment based on your goals and skin concerns.
What To Avoid Before Laser Treatments
It is important to avoid tanning, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 30 days prior to the treatment. Dr. Johnson recommends wearing SPF 30+ sunscreen at all times prior to treatment. He also recommends avoiding smoking for 4-8 hours before treatment to avoid constricting blood vessels, which can make treatment less effective.
Before the treatment, your provider will apply a topical anesthetic cream to slightly numb the skin’s surface to help make the treatment more comfortable. This will be applied approximately 30 minutes before the treatment begins.
A Light & Bright laser skin resurfacing treatment only takes 30 – 45 minutes to complete, and you should have little discomfort during the treatment. Your skin may feel warm when the laser is in use and you may want to apply a cold, damp cloth after treatment.
What To Avoid After Laser Treatments
For the first 24 hours after treatment, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and keeping your face makeup-free. You should apply moisturizer to the treated area to keep the skin soft and avoid using any harsh products. Wear SPF 30+ sunscreen when in the sun and avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks.
Recovery After Laser Skin Rejuvenation
After treatment, it is normal to feel slightly itchy and dry as the old skin starts to slough off. This usually lasts about a week after treatment and can be lessened with the use of moisturizer. In some cases, your skin will appear darker as the treated skin is sloughed off. This can be covered up with makeup.
Over the next few weeks, you will start to see improved skin texture, lightening of hyperpigmentation, and less redness in your skin. After a series of treatments, you can expect to see a noticeable improvement in your skin’s tone and texture.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is laser skin rejuvenation different from laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin rejuvenation typically encompasses a broad range of treatments, including those that stimulate collagen production, improve skin tone, and reduce signs of aging. Laser skin resurfacing, on the other hand, often addresses wrinkles, scars, and other skin irregularities. Our innovative UltraClear® laser is versatile enough to do both and is often a good option for those seeking a comprehensive treatment.
Is laser skin rejuvenation good for your skin?
Yes, laser skin treatments can help improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, stimulate collagen production, and even out skin tone. These visible enhancements in skin quality give patients a refreshed and more youthful appearance.
Is this really a good option for anti-aging?
Laser skin treatments can be an effective option for addressing signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. However, the effectiveness of any treatment depends on the specific laser technology used and individual factors like skin type.
Is the treatment painful?
Comfort during laser skin treatment varies with the depth of treatment and the individual’s pain tolerance. Mild treatments might cause only slight discomfort or a sensation similar to a rubber band snap, while more aggressive procedures could involve some level of discomfort. Our practice applies a topical anesthetic to your skin before treatment to maximize your comfort.
Which is better at reducing brown spots (age spots): lasers or microneedling?
Both lasers and microneedling effectively reduce age-related brown spots. Light and laser treatments, particularly intense pulsed light (IPL) lasers or fractional lasers, can target and break down pigmented spots. Microneedling can also help improve skin tone and texture by stimulating the body’s healing response and cell turnover. The choice between the two depends on your specific skin concerns and preferences.
Is it worth it?
Whether laser skin treatment is worth it depends on your individual goals, skin condition, and expectations. These treatments can yield noticeable improvements in skin texture, tone, and signs of aging. However, it’s important to consult with a qualified professional who can evaluate your skin and guide you on the best course of action.
