Are You a Good Candidate for Laser Vein Treatment?

When considering laser vein treatments, it is important to know if it’s appropriate for your unwanted veins on your face. Spider veins are those distinctively small blue, red or purplish lines which are very apparent and difficult to cover up. Caused by factors such as sun damage, trauma, certain medications or genetics, these veins are more embarrassing than troublesome and fortunately can be treated relatively easily.

Procedure

During laser vein treatment, the laser is passed over the veins being treated and is attracted to the pigment or color of the veins below. The laser energy transforms into heat, cauterizing the blood supply to the vein. Once the vein is no longer supplied with blood, it will be absorbed back into the body, leaving your skin smooth and vein-free.

Recovery after laser vein treatment varies from patient to patient, but it is generally straightforward and involves minimal downtime.

Is the treatment painful?

Laser vein treatment is not typically considered painful, though patients may experience mild discomfort during the procedure. Most describe the sensation as a slight snapping or tingling feeling as the laser targets the veins. Numbing cream or cooling devices are often used to enhance comfort. Any discomfort is typically short-lived.

What to expect during recovery

Most patients return to their normal activities immediately following the procedure. Here’s what to expect as you heal and recover:

• Post-treatment care: You may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising in the treated area, but these side effects typically resolve within a few days. Wearing compression stockings or bandages supports proper healing and improves circulation.
• Avoid sun exposure: It’s important to keep the treated area out of direct sunlight for several weeks post-treatment, as sun exposure can increase the risk of pigmentation changes.
• Resuming activities: You can resume light activities immediately, but it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths, or saunas for at least 48 hours to allow your body to heal fully.

Your results

Most patients notice visible improvement after the first session, with veins gradually fading over the following weeks. Your full results typically take a few months to become apparent as the body naturally absorbs the treated veins. Depending on the size, location, and severity of your spider or varicose veins, additional sessions may be necessary.
